These two articles on Blackboard by Boyd and Gee are similar in many ways but the two authors is using a different way to tell the reader to make sure that you realize when you’re writing to know who your audience is. Boyd used detective work while you are writing to think beyond the words.
After reading Gee’s article I realize that he was describing how writing and grammar should be depending on the audience. He used several examples to make the reader understand what he was saying I felt like that was very important for the reader well us as students to know that to. Depending on what you’re writing and who you are directing it too should determine the language or the grammar you use in the paper.
I believe we had to read these articles together because they go hand and hand giving us examples of how we should write and the genre of what a paper is at our level. These articles is showing that we do not have to write the norm paper for a English class depending on the assignment the writing may not have to sound very formal and can connect to its readers.
I don’t believe discourses are hard but I do believe it takes practice to understand and to use it in a paper. “It is how we acquire all later, more public oriented Discourses. If you have no access to the social practice, you don’t get in the Discourse, you don’t have it.” (Gee 7)

  1. I agree that it takes practice to understand discourses and to be able to use them in a paper. I had never even heard this word used before reading this article.
